Batter Up!
When I heard that the May 2021 Paper Pumpkin Kit was called Batter Up! I thought of my son-in-law Brett! Baseball was a major part of his life while he was growing up. Just look at how adorable he is at the age of six on this sweet baseball card.
Brett not only has a birthday this month but he will also be celebrating his very first Father’s Day as a Dad! So the timing of this kit was perfect and I was excited to use it to design cards for him.
Here is the first card I created with Brett in mind.
I cut a small portion off of the bottom of the card base and then folded it and glued it to the inside of the card to make a “pop-up” section.
Here is what the card looks like on the inside.
Although Brett loves baseball, over the past year he has a new passion. SURFING!!!
Here is a photo of him surfing on Oahu’s North Shore last month.
So with his new found love of surfing in mind, I used the Batter Up! Paper Pumpkin Kit along with some other supplies to make him a surfing themed card.
The red and yellow piece was a left over scrap that I used when making the first card. I rounded the corners at the top of the scrap and I covered it with clear packing tape to make it look like a shiny surfboard. The bear is wearing shorts that were made out of the inside of one of the envelopes in the kit. The bear and smiling sun images were created using two new stamp sets. The bear is from a set called, Count On Me and the sun image is from the set called Sharing Sunshine.
I decided to work on Father’s Day cards next. I used the cute baseball card in the kit to make this card.
You can’t really tell in this picture the the ball has been mounted on a small window sheet. So, when you open this card, it moves. Do you notice that this card was personalized for PAPA?
Both my husband and his Father are called PAPA by their grandchildren. So in order to make a PAPA sentiment, I took the GRANDPA stamp that came in the kit and carefully cut off the PA. By stamping the PA twice, I can create the word PAPA. I can also use the GRAND stamp and combine it with the SON stamp to create the word GRANDSON! With a simple cut, I now have more options!
For my next card, I wanted to do something a little more feminine. I thought of my fabulous niece Alesha!
Alesha has a colorful and fun personality and enjoys being creative with her hair color. I used my favorite new stamp image from the stamp set Pirates and Mermaids to create this friendship card.
Did you know there was an unexpected surprise inside everyone’s Batter Up Kit? Inside each kit was 3 pieces of Double Bubble gum!!! I was tempted to chew the gum but I decided instead to use it to make a party favor box.
This little box would be perfect as a favor for a baseball themed party! Hmm… I love to plan themed parties so I’ll have to keep this idea on the back burner until I plan a baseball one!!
What makes this project great for a party favor is the fact that it is super quick and easy to make. The box is just a 3 1/8 x 3 1/8 Clear Acetate box that I cropped down to fit the gum.
If you like these ideas and would like to learn how to make some of them, you can watch my video tutorial by clicking the link below.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this month’s kit or not. However, I was really pleased with the cards I was able to make with it.
If you have the Batter Up! Paper Pumpkin Kit, I hope these ideas will be a HIT with you.
Have a happy and blessed weekend,
Cindy
