Baby, It's COVID Outside!
I’m enjoying the scent of pine trees as I watch snow falling nearby, I’m in my favorite chair, all snuggled up under a fluffy blanket as I write my post today. Since I’m known as “Travelocindy”, you may think I hopped on a plane to New York or some other Winter Wonderland. Sadly, that wasn’t possible this year. I’m just here, quarentined at home in Hawaii. I’m all snuggled under my blanket because I love soft things and I’m always cold. The smell of pine trees is coming from my favorite Fresh Balsom candle and the snow is falling in the Hallmark movie that is playing right now.
I know that some of you reading this can look out your window and actually see snow. As much as I’d love to be there; I wonder how many of you would love to switch places with me and be here? Regardless of where any of us are in the world right now, there is one thing that we all have in common and that is the fact that it’s “COVID” outside.
This year like many of you, I have been forced to face the fact that I will have to adjust many of the traditions I love. That doesn’t mean that I can’t do them at all, it just means that I have to stay positive and find creative ways to do things differently.
One of the things I was unable to do was host my annual team Christmas party at my home. But guess what? I still had the party, I just hosted virtually. The beautiful discovery of doing it this way was that now anyone on my team from anywhere in the world could join in.
A couple of weeks before the party, I created this Covid Snowman card to send to my team members.
Inside the card I put a packet of punched pieces of card stock so that my team and I could “build a snowman” together via ZOOM.
Instead of Zooming from my stamp studio like I usually do, I set up my laptop in the living room. By doing so, I was able to have a festive background to share with my team and make them feel as if they were actually in my home.
I asked my guests to dress in fun festive attire, at least from the waist up as that is all you can see via ZOOM! We enjoyed games, project sharing and building our snowmen together.
Here is the ornament we made.
This cute little snowman is made out of Whisper White Thick Card Stock. I stamped his face with an image from the Cute Fruit stamp set. I used a scrap of Seaside Spray Card Stock to create his mask and created a dated banner using the Make A Difference stamp set and the Classic Label Punch. This snowman isn’t flat. There are 3 layers of card stock with Dimensionals between each layer to give this snowman a 3D look.
If you’d like to learn how to make this card and snowman, I created a video that you can follow. You can watch it by clicking the link below.
I liked how this little snowman came out so much that I used this same design along with my Little Treat Box Dies to create gifts for the workers at the Cancer Center.
I filled each one of these little treat boxes with Peppermint Hand Sanitizer.
I really love snowmen. I have been collecting them for years and even have an entire Christmas tree in my home dedicated to snowman ornaments. As much as I love snowmen, I don’t have that many opportunities to build them. As my kids were growing up here in Hawaii, we sometimes built snowmen out of sand when at the beach. With that memory in mind, I created a Hula Girl Snowman Ornament. Would you like to meet her?
Say hello to my little friend.
Here is my cute little Hula Girl Snowman hanging above the adorable hula girl gingerbread ornament Cindy Ontai or Zoe, Hawaii gave me last year. Now just like Cindy and I, they will be friends forever.
Would you like to learn how I created her? You can watch my video tutorial by clicking the link below.
Due to Covid, you may be unable to build a snowman this year! So, I hope that today’s post will inspire you with some creative ways you can build a paper snowman. One that will never melt and will certainly bless and brighten someone’s day and remind them to stay safe, positive and hopeful for better days to come.
Have a blessed weekend everyone,
Cindy
May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
