Pirates and Mermaids

When a new catalog comes out I usually gravitate to the “cutesy” stamps or any tropical images.

So imagine my excitement when I opened our new catalog to see the stamp set, Pirates and Mermaids.

When I laid eyes on that sweet little mermaid image, I was so happy! I put the set at the top of my wish list and imagined all the fun cards I could make with it.

At first, the pirate image didn’t really appeal to me. However, all of that changed when I made the card pictured below. It was LOVE at first site. Just look at how adorable he is.

The Seashells 3D Embossing Folder compliments this stamp set perfectly. Especially when you emboss a piece of foil paper like I did in the sample above. What really makes this card fun is the treasure chest image. I loved adding a variety of sparkly embellishments to make this very simple card extra special.

When we went to Greece with Stampin’ Up!, my son in law Brett, had an awkward run in with a pirate character at breakfast one morning. When he tells the story, we laugh as we remember that day. So for his first Father’s Day this year, I made him a pirate easel card using this adorable stamp set.

Well, I’ve told you what I did with the Pirate, but what about the Mermaid?

So far, I’ve made quite a few mermaid cards! However, the card I want to share with you today is a fun “out of the box” card.

When I saw the position of the Mermaid’s arms I though she would make a perfect Hula Girl. I just had to find a way to make her a skirt. I glanced at the Pirate and realized that his beard might work. So, I stamped him in Old Olive and fussy cut 1/2 of his beard and a perfect little hula skirt was formed.

What do you think? Isn’t she sweet?

This week I had to mail out some team recognition cards. I loved this mermaid card so much that I decided to convert it to a smaller card that had less embossing and die cutting on it. I also changed the sentiment. By making a few simple adjustments, I was able to create a card that was even quicker to create.

By the way, did you notice the way I used the Genial Gems on both cards?

I added them as a coconut bra and then colored them with a Poppy Parade Blends Marker to coordinate with the card stock color I had used.

Creating this card was quick and fun. If you’d like to learn how. Click on this video tutorial below.

I hope you enjoyed learning an “out of the box” way to use the Pirates and Mermaid stamp set.

Until next time!

Happy Stampin’,

Cindy
