A Sunny Smile

Have you ever heard about sending someone a box of sunshine? When I found out the theme for the June 2020 Paper Pumpkin kit, I was introduced to this fun concept for the very first time. “A little box of sunshine” is a care package that is typically filled with yellow or orange treats. These surprise packages are designed to bring sunny smiles to those they are given to.

As you can see in this photo below, the June 2020 Paper Pumpkin kit came not only with 4 bright and sunny card designs that you stamp 2 times each and also a sunshine box. After decorating the box with the kit supplies, the next step was to fill it with fun treats and send it on its way to bless and brighten someone’s day!

When I saw a sneak peek of this kit, I noticed the pineapple image it contained. I couldn’t want to get my kit and not only make these cards but also come up with some alternative projects. You would think I would have started with the pineapple but something else caught my eye. I noticed that the leaf from the lemon card looked like a mermaid tail, so the first alternative card I created was this one.

I used the lemon and leaf from the Paper Pumpkin Kit, as well as a sun image that I punched out and fussy cut to create a crown. Want to recreate this card? Click on the video link below.

Don’t you love the Mermaid’s Sunny Smile? I created that using one of the face stamps from the CUTE FRUIT stamp set. This is a brand new stamp set from our current beginners brochure. It is an ADORABLE set that even has a cute pineapple stamp in it, so obviously it was one of my new favorites! In addition to using the smile stamp on the mermaid, I also added it to the sun stamp that came in the kit. You can see how cute it is, in these samples below.

I also created a mini “Share Sunshine” box by using one of our new clear acetate boxes. These cute boxes are designed to hold 3 x 3 note cards. I filled mine instead with yellow candy! Don’t you just love the rosy sequin cheeks on this sunny smile?

Sunny Smile Box - Paper Pumpkin Alternative Project - June 2020

To create this box you need a 3 3/4 x 7 3/4 piece of card stock. You score it on the long side at 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 1/2 and 7 1/2 inches. Then you turn it on the short side and score it at 3 inches. You can watch the video below to see exactly how I put it together.

The final alternative projects I designed are these 2 PINEAPPLE cards. The card on the left is a Z fold card that features a layered pineapple. The card on the right has an interesting background that I created with one of the envelopes from the kit. I also added a fun sentiment by die cutting the word “Aloha” from our new Playful Alphabet Dies.

The mermaid card is for sure my favorite. In fact, if you passed by my stamp studio in the past couple of days you very likely may have over heard me singing a tune from the Little Mermaid Disney soundtrack. I definitely have had mermaids on my mind.

If you are not a Paper Pumpkin subscriber you might be bummed you didn’t get one of these adorable kits but don’t worry!!! In my next post, I’m gonna show you how you can create a fun Mermaid Punch Art card that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

Sunny smiles and stamped blessings,

Cindy
