Let's Get Together and Giggle
I was thrilled when I got the word that Cheryl Hamilton would be flying in from Maui to attend my Spring Stamp Camp. I asked Cheryl if she’d like to stay the weekend at my home and she said, YES!!!
I knew for sure that we’d have fun. Just like we did in Orlando a few months ago when we got to be Disney Princesses at our downline gathering. I was Cinderella and enjoyed running around in my glass slippers all night. The fairest of us all was Kim who was Snow White.
Linda (as you can see below) was having so much fun as Belle that she was tempted to wear her wig the next day! And then there is crazy Cheryl, who was Ariel. Looks like she’s pretty upset cause she wishes she had legs instead of a mermaid tail! If you would have seen it, I think you’d say her mermaid tail was quite impressive!!!
As you can see, we always have a blast together!
Cheryl is a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator from Maui. We are not in the same family tree as demonstrators, but that doesn’t matter. Over the years I’ve found that most demonstrators are such kind people, non competitive and always willing to share inspiration with one another. That’s one of the things I love about being a part of this wonderful company.
It was fun to have Cheryl over! We spent lots of time in my stamp studio and she helped me put the finishing touches on some party favors I was making for my Stampin’ Bunco. What a blessing that was!
Even though it was a busy weekend for us both, we still managed to run over to Macy’s to shop for a bit. What started as a planned power shopping trip, quickly turned into a fashion show! You see, as we looked at some of the clothes for sale, we started to talk about looking at how they could inspire cards we would make in the future. We decided, “let’s have a fashion challenge”..
We started by picking out clothes for each other to try on and I’m not quite sure how it happened, but within a few minutes were were in the dressing room with a bunch of matching outfits.
I am a shopper, so shopping is always fun for me.. But it was even better with Cheryl by my side. We laughed so loudly I’m surprised one of the store associates didn’t knock on the door to see what we were doing in there! We chose some colorful tops that we thought we’d never buy. but after trying them on, we decided that we liked many of them.
As we left the mall, we decided that our challenge would be to make a card out of one of the tops we tried on that day.
A few days later I received this card in the mail from Cheryl.
Since this card had such intricate pleats and was red, pink and white, I knew exactly what top she fashioned her card after. Here it is:
I love Cheryl’s card. It was fun to receive it, especially because it came with a yummy bag of homemade granola. Cheryl also included a note with some really sweet and kind words.
Here is the card I mailed to Cheryl.
This is totally unlike a card I would make. However, I was inspired by the pleated sleeves on the blouse. At first I thought the sleeves were funny looking and I wasn’t a huge fan of the colors. After trying it on however, I really liked it. I didn’t buy it that day but I think I may go back and see if it’s still there. Who knows, maybe by now it would be on sale! Wouldn’t that be great!!!
I haven’t started working on cards to match the other things we tried on, but I have lots of photos from that day to inspire me.
I love, love, love finding inspiration in fashion. I know this will be the first of many challenges you will see here on my blog.
The sentiment on this card is from the Saleabration Set called, Part of My Story! It’s a set that Stampin’ Up! created after receiving suggestions of fun phrases from demonstrators. I choose this sentiment, “let’s get together and giggle” because when I am with Cheryl, that’s usually what happens. It’s certainly what happened in the dressing room that day.
So there you have it, Cindy and Cheryl’s Fashion Challenge Card #1 is complete.
As Cheryl’s card says, I’m so glad we are friends! Friends who can giggle together while finding inspiration and creativity not just in our stamp studios, but also at the mall.
