Our Son in Love
The day he walked into our house for the first time he was carrying a pineapple he brought for me. He walked up to me with a bright smile and gave me a big hug. I had been anticipating this moment since I heard about this wonderful young man that had caught my daughters eye. His name is Brett Nakasone and he is now my handsome son in "love".
When Brett came to our home and saw my stamp studio for the first time I told him that anytime he needed a card he was welcome to make one using whatever supplies he would like. I have said that to others before but not many have taken me up on the offer as quickly as Brett did. With very little instruction he was off creating cards for Jessica, his family, his students at church, etc.
As he created his first card for Jessica's birthday, I discovered how thoughtful he was. He looked for sets that had images in them that he thought Jess would like. He knew Jessica loved mountains and elephants so he found a way to include both on the first card he made her.
In addition to being really thoughtful, Brett is also extremely polite and well mannered. I think every time he has been at our home for a meal he is usually the first to get up and wash the dishes without being asked.
As we've gotten to know him these past two years we have really grown to love him so much. I think anyone who meets him loves him because of his fun loving personality and heart for others. He is also so energetic and fun. He likes to play games and we have already made so many funny memories just spending time together as a family.
When he asked permission to marry Jessica we were thrilled because we knew she loved him so much and so did we. Like him, the proposal was extra special. He proposed while on a missions trip to Israel. It was sunrise at the Sea of Galilee.
Although we couldn't be there. Brett made sure the proposal was on Facebook Live, so we could watch this happy moment from a far.
On May 11, 2018 Brett and Jess were married. The wedding was incredibly special. I will definitely be sharing more about the wedding day in a future post.
This past week he celebrated his 28th birthday. Jess planned a whole bunch of birthday surprises for him which ended with a family dinner. Usually at a birthday party you sing "Happy Birthday" at the end of the meal when you bring out the cake. There's just one thing, Brett doesn't like sweets! Knowing this his Mom created for him this fabulous cake made out of one of his favorite foods, spicy ahi.
This cake was amazing. The inside had a center layer of ahi and two layers of sushi rice. It not only looked good but tasted amazing.
If you follow my blog you may have noticed that I haven't posted as much as usual this past month. That's because in addition to our normal obligations we had a wedding shower, a wedding, company in town, Joyce's graduation, a Mothers Day brunch, a trip to the Big Island, our Stamped With Aloha annual Stampin' Out hunger event and on top of all that i was sick with a terrible cough for over two weeks.
Brett's birthday was the same day as our big fundraiser so when it was time to make his card my stamp studio was a little out of order. I can't stamp when things are disorganized so I was finding it challenging to come up with a card for him. Suddenly, I had a thought! "I know, I can use Paper Pumpkin! I had just received the May kit called Manly Moments. When I opened it up, I saw within minutes how easy it would be to create a card for him using the supplies from this kit. That's the beauty of these amazing monthly subscription kits. Here is the card I made for Brett.
All I can say is, Paper Pumpkin came to the rescue! It was so simple to put together a nice card in a matter of minutes.
Well the happy couple are back from a two week honeymoon that included the Disney Aulani hotel in Kapolei, Disneyland in California, a Disney cruise and a trip to Whistler in Canada.
And since returning home Brett has already been back in my studio creating cards for his students who are graduating this year. It really touches my heart to see the time he invests in showing people how much he cares for them.
When Jess and Brett were sharing about their honeymoon Jessica made me smile when she talked about the fun people they met and got to dine with each night on the cruise. Jessica said, "the first thing I thought when we sat down to our first meal was that these people are gonna be so happy they get to have Brett Nakasone at their table". I thought that was so sweet and TRUE. Jess went on to share that every night at dinner they would be the last ones to leave the restaurant because they were having so much fun together.
As Jess and Brett prepared for their wedding Aria Studios (Jessica's workplace) put together and AMAZING love story video. This was shown at the wedding but it was also a blessing to share with those who couldn't be there. We have some special family and friends who haven' t met Brett yet but because of the amazing talents of Aria Studios this video is a wonderful way for everyone to get to know Brett and see the beautiful way God brought the two of them together.
