Make an Award-Winning Magical Light-Up Paper House Ornament
Create a charming light-up paper house ornament that brings the magic of a snowy Christmas evening to your tree...
Something is enchanting about a warmly lit house on a snowy winter's evening. Today, I'm thrilled to share a craft project that captures that cozy magic in miniature – a light-up paper house ornament that won hearts (and awards!) at a recent holiday gathering.
This charming creation started as party favors for my Warm and Cozy-themed Christmas party. I worked with talented Demonstrator Zeny Lucey, who shared her box-making expertise to help perfect the design. What makes this project extra special is its versatility – it's both a delightful party favor and a lasting decoration. Each little house can hold two holiday chocolates and a battery-operated tea light, creating a magical glow through its paper windows.
What I love most about this design is its adaptability. You can easily untie the top to enjoy the treats inside, then repurpose the box as a beautiful ornament or year-round home décor piece.
Many of you have asked for instructions, so I've created a detailed video tutorial showing every step. Watch below to learn how to create your own magical light-up house!
Light-Up Paper House Ornament Video Tutorial
Seeing these little houses brighten people's faces has truly made my day! I'd love to hear if you plan to make these and who you will gift them to!
At my party, these glowing houses created quite a scene, especially when arranged around a centerpiece made from a little house I purchased at Target. I had embellished it with stamped and die-cut details. Even in our warm climate, these little houses helped us imagine the magic of being all bundled up for a cozy winter's night!
The project's charm didn't stop at my party. When my friend Karin saw it, she was inspired to make one for her church staff's handmade ornament exchange. I was overjoyed when she texted me later to share that her ornament, opened by Pastor Jarrod, had won the favorite prize! It's heartwarming to see how this simple craft has brought joy to so many.
