Crazy Rich Asians

This weekend I went to a Girls Night Out to celebrate Karin’s Birthday. We went to the same place we’ve celebrated her birthday the past few years, Thai Lao Restaurant in Kapolei. This restaurant is one of her favorites, an ours too!

We kicked off the night with a toast of Thai Iced Teas! Yummy!

Cheers for the Birthday Girl

We enjoyed a delicious dinner and great conversation. We laughed when we realized that we were the last people in the restaurant at closing time, as usual! It’s crazy how fast time flies when you are having fun!!!

Thai Lao Restaurant

Know what else is crazy? It was late, after 9:00 pm, but we had one more thing on our agenda. We wanted to watch the movie Crazy Rich Asians. Karin had seen it and said that it was so good she wouldn’t mind seeing it again. So, we headed over to the Olino theater for the 10:30 showing.

When it came time for me to design Karin’s Birthday card, I used the Crazy Rich Asians movie poster as my inspiration. It’s a beautiful colorful poster featuring the stars of the movie, Henry Golding and Constance Wuu.

Here it is on display at the theater we went to.

Crazy Rich Asians

When you see this poster, what Stampin’ Up! colors do you see? I see Real Red, Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry, Coastal Cabana, Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight, to name a few!!!

I chose a few of these colors and created this card for Karin.

Picture Perfect Birthday Card

This card used a variety of Stampin’ Up! Products. The base of the card is a folded piece of Coastal Cabana. I then layered a piece of Tea Room Speciality Designer Series Paper onto a Daffodil Delight Card Base. On top of that I put a small piece of Pacific Point Card Stock that had been run through our new Corrugated Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. On top of that I added a Whisper White Square of Card Stock that had been stamped with a “happy birthday” sentiment from the set Picture Perfect Birthday.

To finish it off, I stamped some Melon Mambo flowers and Daffodil Delight circles using the Colorful Seasons stamp set. Then, I used our Seasonal Layers Thinlits to die cut some of the flowers that I accented with Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

The movie was awesome! I loved it so much that I went that same weekend to see it again. It was totally my kind of Cinderella story with a very happy ending. It also gave me a reason to push a new pin in my travel map to one day visit Singapore!

Know what else was awesome? Watching Karin’s reaction when she opened up her Crazy Rich Asians Inspired Card.

Karin’s Birthday

Since Karin’s husband Jay celebrates his birthday a few days before hers, we thought it would be cute to make this card special for the both of them. So, with some 5 minute photo editing by my daughter, this what Karin saw when she opened the card.

Jay and Karin’s Birthday Surprise

Karin texted us the next day to tell us that Jay and her kids really got a kick out of her creative birthday card this year!

I’m so thankful for a fun weekend filled with love, friendship, celebrations, laughter and making new memories.
